Colony Industrial Complex Whitsundays
This modern industrial complex was designed to address a prominent direction of approach with strong angular lines, whilst also maximizing lettable tenant area and site capacity under local council planning regulations. The attention paid to design has resulted in quality tenants from a mixture of fields, in what was a standard industrial estate.
Materials used include various corrugated Colorbond profiles, rendered concrete block and compressed fibre cement sheet. The structure was primarily steel frame, with reinforced concrete block boundary walls.
The architectural service included sketch design and planning, planning application for MCU approval, and contract documentation (working drawings). Although the complex was owner built, the architect was available and involved during construction.
The industrial estate was later further enhanced by the award winning Roebuck Plumbing building, also designed by James Riddell Architect. This provided an attractive entrance streetscape in an industrial area.
